A Quick Stitching Update

I completed the Prairie Schooler Santa that I plan to give to Mama this year. She has always loved Santas.

I wanted to highlight this fabric with the truck that Arlene gave me. Mother always looks at any Christmas item that has a red truck, so I thought of her when I first received it. I didn't have enough of that to do the full 4 sides for this kind of finish so I used it for the front and back. I then chose another piece in the same family of fabrics for the two inside pieces.

I still have enough of both fabrics to add to future ornaments.

I am waiting to give to Mama closer to Thanksgiving and hoping she feels good too. I did have to take her in for a steroid shot in her shoulder again.

Ladies, I know one thing I have learned from Mother is that we need to do range of motion exercises and strength exercises while we can. Mother has always been in good shape but when you get her age anything we did earlier will help.

My other stitch that I just had to dig into was "The Shepherd's Song" by Plum Street Samplers. I finished the first page of 8. I am loving this one.

This is not the best picture. I took it one evening when I completed the page.

I am going to finish up a small Hometown Holiday and then do a page of my heron next.

Happy Stitching,
Sandy

  1. I very much agree with your reminder about exercise paying dividends later. I've always walked daily, and took up free weights when I turned 60. So glad now in my mid80s to have no joint problems, unlike most of my relatives. I do think it pays off. It might not always be simple cause and effect, but there's a link! Good health to your mother. She's lucky in her daughter, so caring.

    1. I do think you are right. Mother always walked and has good leg strength, but she needed to do those weights too. She has very little arm strength and that is where her biggest issues are. Mother and I have a very close relationship since my dad died when I was young. I wouldn't dream of not taking good care of her:)

  2. I LOVE the Santa and the fabric choices! I am sure your Mama will love it too!! What a sweet gift! I am sorry she is suffering so much with her shoulder. That hurts and is no fun. I understand. Are you having this blustery, cold, rainy day? It is 54 degrees right now, and that is our high. Happy November! Have a blessed weekend.

  3. The Santa is darling, cheery and beautiful. Good advice to stretch. It does help more than I think folks might realize.

  4. Greetings Sandy: I totally lover your Santa, the fabric is perfect, the Plum Street Sampler is a lovely design.
I know what you mean about range of motion, we kept my Mother in motion until almost the very end of her life, it does help.
    Have a lovely week.

  8. Beautiful....I have that same PS Santa. I think it is the only one I have done.:) I am glad the fabric came in handy. I love to look through my stash for just the right fabric for a piece.

  9. Oh, what a darling finish, Sandy--your mom will love it! I think that fabric is darling and it looks great made up as a flatfold. Your new Shepherd's Song is so soft and pretty, too. So true about keeping active and doing strength training as we age. The folks I see who have aged the best just never stop working out--you have to keep at it no matter your age. Hope your mom's steroid shot helped. My mom used to get them in her left hip and they made a huge difference. Have a great week with little Palmer! ♥

  11. Lovely stitching. What specific range of motion exercises are you doing? I think you're Mom will be thrilled with her newest Santa and red truck. The fabric you found to coordinate is perfect. Well done.

    1. Hey Sandy, My computer has been in the shop for a couple weeks. I am hoping to get it back next week. It is our only computer in the house. It is under warranty so all should be good. It has put a dent into my blog reading for everyone. Being busy with keeping the grandson and with Mom has put me behind too. Over Christmas I hope to catch up and add some blogs of readers to my sidebar. I have been a awful blog friend.
As for exercises I have been just doing arm circles in both directions with some 2 pound weights and some arm lifts above my head with 3 or 5 pound weights.
