Living Room Tour

Earlier in the week when I could not concentrate on stitching or reading I cleaned. I did most of it crying intermittently. Anyone who has ever had a shedding dog that requires daily vacuuming will know that I cried as I vacuumed. I stated in a previous post that it was so gloomy outside.

That actually makes for better picture taking in my living room, so I cleaned and actually took pictures. I haven't shared much of the home in awhile. I love looking at homes so here goes a living room tour.

I have found that I don't feel the need to decorate for spring as much in here mainly because the colors are more springy in here. When I had my leather couch that I loved a lot, I did feel the need to lighten things up come spring.

So we will travel around the room. First up is a wide shot of the bookcases.

Then we will add a closer view of the shelves. I love books and that is no secret.  I also love most everything on the shelves. They are things that have stood the test of time. They are our style and story.

I did add a few flower picks in a vase on the bottom shelf.

I added a springy bird stitch and a St. Patrick's Day stitch on this side.

Moving along is the doors that lead to the front door, formal dining room and downstairs. The door to the right is our bedroom.

Gus and I are both still very sad that Lemony is not with us. He is laying where she laid.

Moving on...

Next wall.

That space in the middle belongs to Jeff and that is about as neat as it gets, but he is happy so I just let it go. Behind those gigantic chairs were two dog kennels neatly covered in a linen curtain I had made for both of them. I wrote a post about how I neatened them up a long time ago.

I cried and took Lemony's down because I had said Gus was the caboose. The kids have dogs now and I am not getting younger. It wouldn't do for me to see a sweet little Golden puppy though.
You can also see how cloudy and wet it was outside the day I did it all.

I moved my little childhood desk that is now on its third generation of use where Lemony's box had been. It gets pulled out on days when Tucker stays with me.

The other wall is my space. I don't know that mine is much neater, but my basket of books and stuff is behind the chair and in the cabinet. I do have a cup for my stitching glasses and scissors and stuff there. Real life.

We keep a binocular there because I love to look at the ducks and birds on the water.

And we are back full circle around the living room. Kitchen to the left. Tour of next time.

The weather was gorgeous the last two days and I was able to get outside. Lemony would have loved it. I guess you will get overload of Gus pictures now.

We were sitting outside yesterday. I do have some stitching to share that got stitched before the big thing. I haven't stitched or read since. I hope next week I can settle down and do so. I had read a good book that I will probably add more of this author to my list.

Thanks for all the love this week.
Sandy

  1. OH, Gus is just beautiful, or handsome, I should say! I am sure he is lonely and will need extra attention these days, which you will also need too. I love the home tour...so beautiful, and with such a great view! I like your binocular idea on the stand...I might need to do that if I could find my binoculars...they are lost somewhere in the boxes in the shed that we can't get too because we need to build shelves and get it better organized. So I use my camera as my binoculars and just take pictures of whatever I see. You have such a wonderful setting for your home. May God bless you with happy sunny days ahead as you look forward to some exciting times this summer...and your heart will will be filled with joy again. (((hugs))) to you now.

    1. I love looking at the ducks and water birds that come in on the bayou up close. I am ready for the sunny days. The winter has been long enough for me. Gus and I are missing Lemony but we just have to move through the days. Lemony was a blessing to us.

  3. You have a beautiful, spacious living room. I love how you have so much light even on a gloomy day. The windows looking out to the water supply never ending changing views. YOu have a beautiful home. I wonder if Gus laid on Lemony's bed because Lemony's scent is there. Is it unusual for him to take over Lemony's spot?

    1. Gus did occasionally lay on the bed, but it was Lemony's. Gus goes to the front room a lot. I think he is looking for her. She would go up and sit in the front bedroom to look out. She was also allowed to go sit in the front yard without being watched because she liked to sun out there and was good. I could trust her. He would often go watch out the front window to keep an eye on her. He seems to be looking for her almost. Lucy, the Springer before Gus took over the other Springer's box when he died. Anyway, we are both grieving and we just have to go through it. We miss her and are grateful for our time with her.I am blessed with so much wonderful light on the back. I am a light seeker. I can't stand days on end of clouds. I would definitely suffer from that disorder if I lived in a place where there wasn't lots of light.

  4. Love your beautiful home Sandy. The pops of blue and white are so pretty. I always wonder what dogs think when a companion dog dies. I am sure they grieve for their friend. I am glad you have Gus to love on and keep you smiling. He is a handsome fella for sure. We keep binoculars out at Grimmwood so we can see the wildlife there. Here at Nanaland Grandpa is the only wildlife.:)

    1. Thanks Arlene. It hasn't been the best week for Gus and me, but we just have to walk through it. I haven't been able to do my normal things. We walked a lot yesterday and we were both tired but it helped. I love watching the ducks. Ducks and camellias help me get through winter.  I have been talking to Jeff about retirement. I personally think it is time. He doesn't know what he will do with his days, but that job is too much. I am starting to pray in earnest for the right decision.

  8. I love pictures of your home, Sandy. And I love seeing that new couch again. I will enjoy future tours. :) I, too, wonder what Gus is thinking and experiencing. It's so good you have each other during this hurting time.

    1. I haven't done much in the line of home tours in a good while. Lots of things are the same, but I am always tweaking things. Thank you:)

  9. I was wondering how Gus was doing now that his sweet companion is no longer with him, Sandy. How old is Gus? Do you really think he will be the last? My sister who is about your age just decided no more dogs for her. I was so surprised as she had had one her whole married life. We only ever had our one cat (for 14 years) and now that we like to travel, I have to admit it is much easier with no pet. I know it must have been hard putting away her crate and I'm sure you cried each time you came upon a bit of her hair.

So enjoyed your living room tour--love all the bookshelves! I can't imagine a home without books although I know there are many :) I think I must have books in every single room in my house except for the dining room and bathrooms :) As I've mentioned many times--I so love your location by the water. I'd constantly be on the lookout for birds and wildlife...

Hope you are doing a bit better each day--it does take time to mend that hole in your heart ♥

    1. Gus will be 4 in June. I can't believe he is already that old. He is finally settling down with energy and he and I BOTH miss Lemony. I think he looks for her. Dogs that have been raised with a buddy tend to need a buddy. SO< you have asked the million dollar question. I know life would be easier with one pup, but don't let me see any Golden puppies right now or I might be persuaded to pull that kennel back out. It was terrible putting it away. It just takes time to adjust to the not being greeted by both.
I can't imagine a home without books. These younger ones are all digital and have very few, but I just love the real thing around. I will say both of my kids have books. Katie is pretty much a digital reader but she puts up with Paul Allen's collection. Lindsay got rid of her big bookcase but she has them all over the house as decor. She doesn't like the digital offerings and her room here still has quite a collection of books she didn't want to get rid of. I don't mind so she has that for now.
      Thanks for the sweet words.
